This page describes the source update. Check your installed extension's version in settings; local changes do not automatically update the Chrome Web Store build.
If a prompt was not counted
- Check that you are using Chrome/Chromium 111 or newer and a supported browser chat site: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, or Grok.
- Reload the extension after updating, then reload every already-open supported chat tab.
- Send a new prompt. Historical conversations are not backfilled.
- For Grok, enable optional counting in settings, allow access to grok.com, and reload existing Grok tabs.
- Open Settings & site status to check the current site, last counted time, and detection source.
GPTandME only tracks browser chat sites. Claude Code, native desktop apps, command-line tools, direct API clients, and Chrome Incognito are outside its scope.
ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Grok require a recognized outgoing user-send request; Gemini uses its primary page composer. If a provider changes its request endpoint or composer, detection can miss sends and may need an extension update. Report the affected service and extension version if reloading does not help.
Why did a failed response count?
A count records a submission, not a successful response. A recognized outgoing request can count even if the provider rejects it or fails to finish its response. Repeated observations of the same request identifier are counted once.
Where did the extra panels go?
Version 1.6.0 focuses on prompt counts. API cost estimates, thinking-time displays, and session, streak, last-24-hours, and model-breakdown panels were removed. The updated page script no longer captures thinking time. Your existing counts and legacy timing, model, hourly, and session data remain compatible with JSON backups.
Keep or move your history
Open Backups & data and download a JSON backup before changing installations. A JSON backup preserves the complete normalized local dataset; restoring one replaces current data. Different extension IDs have separate storage, so an unpacked copy can start with empty history even when the Store extension has counts.
CSV files contain dated prompt counts using date,provider,model,count. Imports add counts to existing history, and importing the same file twice duplicates them. Older date,model,count files are supported with provider unknown. CSV does not preserve timing, hourly, session, or settings data.
Usage recorded before service attribution stays under unknown; GPTandME does not guess its original service.
Reset controls
Reset today removes today's dated counts and legacy timing aggregates, and clears session aggregates and recent deduplication IDs. Older dated totals remain. Reset all removes all usage history. Both controls ask for confirmation.
